Jade Wolfbane wondered where that pup ran off to. Probably off to test her new fishing abilities. Jade awakened to find her newest little friend missing, though she really didn't worry. Yawning, the black pelted female stood and went to the nearby water for a quick drink. Plenty of little fishies in there today, where was Music now, she was missing it! Oh well, Jade's time to be along again~ No harm in it. Stretching her legs, the black female sat down and wondered what to do today. Perhaps go about and search for other wolves again. Or maybe she was doing it wrong. So she stayed where she was, wondering if by staying in one spot, others would eventually come to her. Hey, took less energy on her part. Where was everyone?
Rinaldi wandered aimlessly, as any loner would. He had been on the move a lot, exploring the new terrain and looking for somewhere to fit in. It was hard. Everyone in this place seemed to have connections; a pack, a family. He had nothing but himself. Nose to ground, he allowed it to lead him through the forest by scent trails, emerald eyes not really focusing on where he was headed. It seemed as though tonight would end just as the others: Rinny would find an abandoned birthing den or some other form of secondhand shelter and sleep alone. It wasn't until he nearly smashed his face into the rocky structure that he saw her. Sure, he smelled her before now, but he assumed the scent was just another left by someone passing through. With a light, almost muffled noise, he backed up several yards. His eyes grew a bit as he gazed in relative silence at the ravenous female perched atop one of the lower surfaces, "I...I'm sorry, Miss..uh..." Rusty ears fell backwards as he looked away, "I didn't see you," He confessed, holding himself as still and respectful as possible. Didn't want to piss anyone off tonight, especially if, like so many others, this lady was a pack wolf.
Jade Wolfbane was probably paying attention to something somewhere else. Peering off into the distance, unaware there was someone else so close until he spoke. Startled slightly, Jade turned her head and looked over to the other. Ah! She was right! Stay in one spot, here comes the wolves~ Jade grinned at herself in her ingeniousness. Ears pricking forward, she gazed at the male, to her joy it was not another puppy. Ah, this might go well! "Hello!" she greeted in a friendly, foolish manor. "That's okay, I didn't see you either." Jade smiled to the male, wondering about his posture but wouldn't ask about it just yet. Slipping from her spot, she then shortened the distance between the two. Wagging her tail, Jade quickly introduced herself to the total stranger. "I'm Jade, what's your name?"
Rinaldi emitted a quiet sigh of relief as the female seemed to not be offended by his clumsy entrance. As she spoke, he felt a bit at ease, allowing himself to relax his stance a bit. Now standing in a more natural pose, he nodded a bit, a small smile beginning to form upon his ashen muzzle, "It's a pleasure, Jade. My name's Rinaldi." A moment passed as he allowed her to absorb his title before he continued. Oh, the art of small talk, "Are you new around here," He questioned, tail waving a little behind him as he patiently awaited her response. Was she a loner as well? That would be a first for him in this place, meeting someone else who had nowhere to go. Hope began to flicker within him, though he wouldn't get too excited just yet.
Jade Wolfbane gave a small nod at his question. "Yes, I am very new here. I transferred here just the other day, even!" She seemed a bit too oddly happy over this. The hell with it, she was excited now, who cared. Jade was getting happy about coming here, so why not? "Are you?" she the asked obviously, like it was normal for one to just arrive in a sheltered habitat for wild animals, monitored by two-legs and such. Oh yes, totally normal. Like appearing out of thin air. Poof, another Yellowstone resident! Not that she herself had seen any. She obviously hadn't gotten far, for there were lots, too many wolf packs lingering about she was unaware of. Ignorance was a wonderful thing.
Rinaldi. His smile seemed to grow as she spoke. It was somewhat infectious, her enthusiasm. The reddish male's tail wagged a bit more as she explained just how long she had been in the area. He nodded, "Yes, as a matter of fact. Well, I've been here for a few weeks now. Do you have a pack," Stupid question. Shouldn't have asked that. Why would she be all alone out here in a new place if she had a pack? Glancing down, he gave a small sigh. Unlike her, he'd been exploring since he got here, and had seen at least ten packs, and he was sure there were more.
Jade Wolfbane shook her head again in her answer. "Nope, I'm by myself." Though this said, she quickly looked around, wondering if her little super hero friend would appear out of no where and surprise them both. "But I did find a lone pup yesterday..." she explained off handily. "I do wonder where she ran off to." Female almost sounded worried over this. Nah, she couldn't be though. That kid was strong as steel! Attention quickly jolted itself back to Rinaldi. What a cool name, by the way. "I am assuming you do not have a pack either?" The questions bounced back and forth, this game was way too easy.
Rinaldi's head lifted as she replied. No pack? Was she serious? Seemed like it. His smile returned, though his head tilted to one side as she spoke of a pup. He wondered how there could be a pup wandering around without some type of guardians. Didn't packs do that? He pondered this for a moment before also seating himself, his weight causing the dry grass beneath him to become flat. He nodded, "Your assumption is correct. I never had a pack; only my parents and siblings. But they're all gone now...lost," He said, revealing a bit of his background to her. It was somewhat odd, meeting someone just like him.
Jade Wolfbane frowned a little bit, hearing his sad little clip of background he was willing and kind enough to give her. "Oh I am sorry to hear that." she said softly, sincerity in her voice, as well. Truly moved by his little story, she couldn't imagine loosing her family, although she would quickly realize that she in fact did, when she was transferred here. Shucks. Well, she at least believed they were in good spirits, this was good enough for her! "How come you have never joined a pack, then?" she questioned. "Where I came from before was sort of like a pack. One big family, at least. I couldn't imagine being alone for long, hardly even now." And it did show, mind you. She missed company, she hated being alone, damn it.
Rinaldi gave a little shrug as she expressed her sympathy, "It's okay, honestly. I'm just grateful I had them for as long as I did. I mean, just look at the son my parents raised," He said, puffing out his chest and striking a glamorous pose, his mouthful of off-white fangs on display as he turned his head to the side and looked at her with one eye. After his little show, he made himself normal again and shook his noggin at himself, chuckling, before answering her question, "Oh, I've only been alone for a few months. I spent some time wallowing in my homeland before I decided to go out and try to find a place to belong...you know, where I'd fit in. Being alone isn't all that bad. There's a lot of time for reflection, and having no responsibilities is a plus, I'd think. What about a mate and pups?" The question just kind of flowed out of his mouth, almost uncontrolled. The mahogany male thought he may have been a little intrusive with that one, but it was too late for second thoughts now.
Jade Wolfbane smirked at his little display. Oh he was a funny one, too. Jade liked him already. Though his question made her head tilt to the side a little, first in confusion, then she wondered exactly how to answer that question. "Oh I have never had a mate before." she answered, first. "But I think having my own pups someday would be wonderful." she dared blush a little and look down. Her adoration for the tiny kind always got the best of her. She was drawn to them, she swore! She had even managed to find Music in this entire place! The poor little loner puppy. If that wasn't a sign, she didn't know what was. After a moment of silence, she threw the question back at him with a small, "You?"
Rinaldi listened quietly as she told him of her status. That went better than he anticipated. As the question was returned to him, he looked around for a moment, "No, none of that for me. I'm not even two yet," He admitted, also looking down in a bashful manner. Actually, he would be turning two in about a month, so it wasn't like he was just a kid. After a few seconds, he raised his head and smiled, "Although I do plan on finding someone and having lots and lots of Rinny Juniors!" He laughed at himself once more, his tail sweeping over the dried grass and soil with gusto. He hadn't laughed in a while. It was nice. "...If I don't find a mate, I may adopt...I know that's not normal, but I just...well, I'm a big softy." Again with the shy glances to the ground.
Jade Wolfbane couldn't help but giggle at his words. Though she quickly sobered up, saying, "I was hoping on adopting Music. The lone pup I mentioned. It isn't right that she's out here all by herself. Her mother went missing..." Jade sat and pawed at the ground a little, feeling quite bad about the whelp. And darn it, she really was starting to worry about her now. "Aside from that," she quickly brushed this away before she could think on it too awful much, "I bet someday, when you are old enough, you will find the perfect mate for yourself." Of course, just after emphasizing the male's young age, she grinned. It was a big place, this Yellowstone. Lots of girls, she could guess. .... Still haven't found any herself, though!
Rinaldi nodded, agreeing with her reasoning on adopting the pup she met, "I can tell you love them -- pups. I have a feeling you'll make a fine mother. This 'Music' will be lucky to call herself yours," he said, giving his -- for whatever it was worth -- analysis of the situation. Judging from the way she spoke about his age, you'd think he was only six months old. He snorted and displayed a snarl, all in good humor, of course, "Hey! I'm not that young. I bet I could find a mate now, if I tried. And what about you? You talk like you're an old timer," He sneered, though his tail continued to wag behind him. Fun stuff.
Jade Wolfbane blushed slightly when he told her she would make a 'fine mother'. Oh what compliments he could give! Jade also giggled softly then gave him appalled look when he practically called her an old timer. "Well, I am not old old." she quickly answered. "I'm only nearing my third year." Where she came from, they actually did celebrate the years as they went by. She recalled having her second 'birthday party', with the knowledge of her third being somewhere in the fall. But the question was, was 3 old? It certainly wasn't young~ Only just closer to her prime, in fact. Not old at all! She too, was wagging her tail along behind her while this friendly, playful conversation went on.
Rinaldi smirked, "Only three? I would have put you at at least five." Sarcastic, playful banter flew back to the charcoal lady as she gave her age. Three. Of course three wasn't old. Three was probably the best age to be, he guessed. Just old enough to have some experience as a real adult, but young enough to have the energy of a pup. Still young enough to begin something new. The silly look on his face vanished when he spoke next, "To be honest, I would have guessed you were just over two, or even as young as me." 'As young as me.' Pfft. Rinny was basically a mature male; he'd be two in just about a month...All of a sudden, another topic came to his mind, "...Hey...what if...if you don't find a pack (assuming you're looking for one), what are you going to do? Would you consider starting your own pack?" Random, maybe, but it kept the conversation flowing
Jade Wolfbane poked her tongue out at him at the first thing he said. Though his honesty made her nod a bit. She was an odd sort. Wise but young minded, lazy but energetic, young but mature... Everything all wrapped into one black pelt. Age was so deceiving anyway! At his question about packs her ears pricked forward. "Um, I haven't really thought about it. I would like to be in a pack, but I am sort of afraid I wont fit in well.. The idea of starting one sounds silly. I mean ruling a pack of puppies at my old place was.. easy enough. But grown ups are a lot harder to handle, I'd think?" She gave a weak shrug, unsure of the idea of a real wild wolf pack. It was what she wanted, but she was also a little afraid of the idea.
Rinaldi. He wanted to make a comment about her tongue, but he'd let it die. Poking at one another was only fun for a short while. They had just barely met each other, after all. The boy began to pant a bit, not because he was nervous, but because he was hot. Tonight was a somewhat warm one, for it being so well into September. His winter coat had already begun to grow in, and he was paying for it now, "Well, pups and adults both have their challenges. It's hard for me to say one is easier than the other. With pups, you have to protect them from everything else. With adults...you have to protect them from themselves," Oh yes, let's get philosophical in the wee hours, "Other than that, my thoughts basically match yours on packs. I've been around most of this area and I've counted -- well -- stopped counting at ten. Ten packs, and none of them are very appealing to me."
Jade Wolfbane gasped. She couldn't hold it back. "Ten??" Geeze, was she bad at finding packs or what? Give the poor girl a break, this whole thing was still totally new to her! "I'm amazed.." she spoke, more to herself, really, now letting what he said about the challenges. Protect pups from others, of course. Protects adults from themselves. ... Well that really didn't sound too incredibly hard! Jade shrugged a little flopping her ears back while she thought in her silence. Finally, she spoke, "Well... I guess I will think about it." Giving a nod, Jade, though said, "But if I did start my own pack, since no others seem .. fitting, would you join mine?"
Rinaldi nodded, "Ten," He restated, "And I'm sure there're more. This place is huge." It was late. He was...exhausted. He turned his head over his shoulder, squinting at the horizon. The sun would be peeking over it soon. He looked back to Jade, giving a yawn, "You're asking me to join your pack? I thought it was the other way around. I'd be honored to be a member of your pack, if you create it. I appreciate your offer, Jade. Thank you," He said, sincere as ever. A warm smile curved his velvet lips before he rose another short topic, "Hey...I don't know about you, but I'm not nocturnal. Would you mind if I slept here?" How could she turn down that face?
Jade Wolfbane beamed at his words. Oh cool! The possibility of starting up a pack just got higher~ Ten points. Hearing him request to sleep here, she nodded quickly. "Oh of course!" she said as if telling him off was out of the question. Which, it was. Jade, herself settled down exactly where she sat. Sleeping on rocks was no fun, but cuddled up against their protection was cute nice. Peering over at the younger male for a brief moment, she curled up and covered her nose with a paw. She wasn't all that tired, having napped most the day away, but hey, she liked sleep.
Rinaldi wandered aimlessly, as any loner would. He had been on the move a lot, exploring the new terrain and looking for somewhere to fit in. It was hard.
