Kilayah trotted quickly over the grassy hills. Wow, almost a whole year had passed since she was born! Pup had gone from a cute little furball, totally dependent on her mother for food, protection.shelter, plus other things, to a near fully grown beauty. She certainty did take after her mother. Even as a pup, she had dreamed of this time, the time she would set out on her own! Time for adventure. Danger...thrills and chills! Kil was quite a daredevil, ready to take on any challenge! Any obstacle! She was fearless! ....oh alright, so maybe she wasn't exactly fearless. She had her issues just like anyone else. Like those itty bitty chipmunks! The way they could put so much into their mouths!! So NOT normal people! Kilayah shuddered at the thought, but continue on her way. She paused and started sniffing at a tree, searching for territory markers. Ok, nothing on this tree...glancing around, she snickered and proceeded in marking that tree. "My tree!" she piped up and then broke into a lope. Hmm.wonder if anyone's around...? she thought, lifting her nose to the sky and taking a few good whiffs. Blech...stale scents. Walking around was growing rather..well, boring. Pup so needed something to do before she went crazy. Suddenly, a rustling in the brush perked her ears up and forward. What was this? Something to do? Something to chase?! SWEET! Kil instantly dropped to her belly and slunk closer to the source. Mighty huntress, lurking in the shadows, stalking her prey HAHA! Nose twitching, tail wriggling slowly, she waited before.....she pounced! Right on a..wait for it.....an unsuspecting CHIPMUNK~ Green eyes went wide as she stood over a rather, non impressed rodent, cheeks stuffed with nuts. Poor canine jumped a mile high, screaming at the top of her lungs. "AHHHHH!!!!" Birds flew, scattering from the sudden interruption.
Jade Wolfbane was awake, waiting for sleepyhead Rin to waken. Though she wouldn't have gone out of her way to wake him up herself. She slid away from him in quietly, unwanting to disturb the younger of his much needed beauty sleep. Jade wagged her tail as she once again visited the little river for a drink. Sitting at the edge of the water, she peered around, wondering once more where the pup ran off to. Worried, she frowned and pondered going off in search of her. This was looking more and more like a possibility. Just like starting that pack Rin had mentioned. What would it be like OWNING a wolf pack? She didn't even know what it was like being in a pack, much less owning it. Jade shook her head a little, giving a yawn. Yellowstone was quiet today, except for the gentle songs of the birds, and such. Though the usual silence was shattered at the sudden, nearby, scream. Jade jerked her head around to look at Rin, who was still asleep. Suddenly she thought about Music once more. What if!!! Jade leaped to her feet and ran in the direction of whoever it was. Of course, she soon found it was not Music, but different young female. "What happened!?" She blurted, despite the fact she had no idea who this wolf was, she was just too nice to pass up this reason to fret about something. How could Rin SLEEP through that anyway?
Kilayah's fur fluffed out, and her limbs were all but glued, to a birch trees trunk. Neck was turned so she could look around behind her, the best she could. A black female wolf suddenly appeared on the scene and without looking her way, Kil blurted. "Is it gone?!" Still glancing around. 'Please please please PLEASE tell me IT's gone!!" she blurted again. After a moment, she unattached herself from her 'safe haven' and then slunk closer to the other shewolf. "It was terrifying I tell you! Simply TERRIFYING!!" she rambled on. Fangs this long!" she said, using her paws to measure. "And and...it's claws! Longer than a bears!" "Oh the horror of it all!" Kil tucked her tail between her legs and flopped on her belly to cover her face with her paws. . "It had huge cheeks, and drool oozing and dripping from his evil fangs!" Sure, she had an overactive imagination, but eh whatever
Jade Wolfbane tilted her head to the side at the younger, obviously younger, one's total fear of.. whatever it was. Something with huge cheeks, teeth, and fangs. Quickly taking a look around, she saw nothing that fit that description. "It's gone." she assured the.. pup? Surely a yearling at least. Oh how strange Jade would only come across all the younger wolves in Yellowstone. No one appeared to be older than her. Although there were apparently 10 packs somewhere around here. Jade shuddered at the idea. But why not make it 11? Lucky number 11. Ohyes. Lifting a paw, she patted the younger female's shoulder. "It's gone," she repeated, "You're safe now." Kind, reassuring words would work, no? Jade stood there, though confused as to what sort of animal or being would have claws longer than a bear's. Maybe she saw a badger. Those things were evil!
Kilayah lifted a paw off her head, sneaking a peek around. Gone?? Oh phew that was a major relief. She sat up after getting a pat on the back. Muzzle parted in a smile. "Thanks...I sure hope it's gone..." she muttered, once again glancing from side to side. One can't be TOO careful after all, ya know? Kil sat back down, turning to face the shewolf. "Um, well....who are you?" she asked, ears standing askew. Tail lay limp, but every now and then would twitch, or flop lazily. Kil lifted a back leg, body scrunching as she scratched her neck, waiting for an answer.
Jade Wolfbane stood there for a moment, a bit confused and unsure of herself at the moment. Interesting kid, she sure was. Jade gave her a strange look. "Jade." she answered in a soft voice. "My name is Jade." She held no title just yet, still thinking on this idea of becoming an alpha. She was growing rather fond of it, but then who would follow her? At least Rin, dear Rin. Jade nodded to the younger female. "What is your name and why are you out here all by yourself?" She didn't want to actually say to the kid's face that, she looked and acted far too young to be alone. Hrm. Another stray puppy. Darn to be reminded of Music again! Jade shook her head, clearing these thoughts away.
Kilayah finishes scratching and stood as she automatically shook afterwords. "Jade eh? Nice name." Scratching again, she answered, her voice reverberating. "I'm Kilayah, but most call me Kil!" she said. Darn those fleas! "I'm out here cause I'm starting my own life!" she grinned, finally relieving herself of that itch, for now at least. "I'm plenty old enough to find a new life away from my parents!" she laughed.
Jade Wolfbane tilted her head again, ever so slightly. "Are you now?" she questioned. "How old are you then, Kilayah, if you don't mind me asking, of course." Only to be polite yet questionable at the same time. Jade surely was curious. "How do you like being on your own so far?" she then asked, question answered or not. Rin was almost two and Jade was almost three. Music was... psh, probably no where near turning one, yet. Jade felt old. Like the 'old timer' Rin had called her just last night. Holding back a giggle, Jade's ears pricked forward, awaiting an answer from the pup of any kind. Eesh, fleas. How she forgot those. Jade dreaded them now... Inching away from Kil discreetly, she gave them no chance to jump at her as well.
Kilayah flicked her ears back, then forward again, listening to the questions. "Oh I'm almost a year. Eleven months t be exact!" she grinned from one ear to the other. "I am lo---"she suddenly paused to whip her head around, body bending to get at the stinging itch on her right flank. Kil chewed and gnawed on the fur and flesh there for a moment, finishing with a couple licks to soothe the hotspot on her butt. Snuffing, she panted for a few more moments, before sitting up and answering. "As I was saying, I'm loving it! So many sights! Sounds and smells!" she giggled like a mad person. "It's another adventure waiting for me to tackle it and stake my claim!" she grinned, tail wagging as she stood.
Flitt flitted - geddit? - through the air, like the insect she zoomed after. Contracted pupils remained locked upon its target, as wings beated every fifth of a second, spiraling the little feathered creature between tree branches and over grass seas. Finally, one swoop, and the mayfly was snapped up in mid-air. Such daring acrobatic skills, and yet, none other than the insects she hunted noticed. Then, as she finally studied the land, a group of the ever common wolfies were found. Oh, how she'd like to see one of them do backflips in mid-air! Tiny bird dove, and without effort, perched herself upon the fingertip of a nearby conifer branch. Tweet tweet.
Jade Wolfbane stared at the pup before her. Yup. If she made a pack, and if someone like this individual in front of her ever was in it, Jade would dub them omega. Even though, still at the puppy stages of life and all. Jade doubted personality would change the day she turned a year old, maybe two, but only if she had some huge life changing event.. or two. Also, flea bitten scoundrel as she was, defiantly omega material. Jade snickered softly, amused by the young female, in a way that was probably rude. She kept her thoughts to herself. But then wasn't the omegas roll supposed to be the one to amuse the others? Class clown. Jade snorted. "Well it's good to see you're excited about it!" she said, brightly despite thoughts. Wolves let their kids wander off too soon... Jade frowned inwardly to herself. Thoughts distracted, however, when a bird swooped in, landing on a nearby branch. Tiny little thing, though with a beautiful voice. Jade looked to it and her smile grew just a bit bigger. "Hello, bird~" she said, in all kindness, if it could understand. She never talked to birds before. But she loved them. Flying would be just the greatest thing, she thought. Forever dreaming of having wings and soaring through the air! (noted in another rp I did! )
Kilayah laughed and jumps back and forth, spun around once and then let her butt meet ground once more. "And why shouldn't I be excited about it?!" she asked. Standing again, for she just couldn't sit still and all you know, she spun around, facing the opposite direction this time when she stopped. "I mean look at it!" she barked. "There's a whole big wide world out there just waitin' for someone to conquer it!" she snickered, tail held high in her excitement. "Think of the animals to be seen, different than us. Some smiler. Who KNOWS what can be experienced!". Green eyes sparkled with mirth and challenge. Somewhat scattered brained, and easily distracted, her ears perked up, hearing a bird very close by. "Ahah!" she yipped, running to a tree and propping her front paws on the trunk. "It's a......!...what kind of bird is it?" she asked, tilting her head
Flitt watched them for only a moment, before quickly getting to preening her feathers. Short beak knitted them, but as the two below discovered her existence, head appeared from beneath her wing. It was ruffled back into her puffed side. One hop was taken, right to the fingertip of the branch, and she leaned down - to the point that any would wonder how she managed to hang on! "Hi, wolves!" She chittered, very quickly, and very, very, cheerfully. She was safe here, on her conifer branch. Even as one of them reached up the trunk in attempts to get closer, they had to have kitty skills - and more! - to climb this high! "I's a chik-a-deeee." The name was trilled, separated at each syllable, for their understanding. Whole body was ruffled, and the tiny avian seemed to grow plump as her feathers poofed.
Jade Wolfbane flicked her ears back at Kil's yet again sidetractedness and puppylike behavior. She was a puppy though, so all was forgiven, she supposed. Little girl just wanted to go out and explore the world, of course nothing wrong with it. Jade just hoped the young one wouldn't get hurt along the way. Like with that badger... Jade bristled her fur slightly. Enough of that, the bird did understand, and she could understand her too! Oh good, she was so used to species that didn't understand... Peering up at the bird, her tail wagged gently behind her, the pup of course would rush headfirst into things. Jade held back a giggle. Oh puppies, ever curious, though should have remained with their parents till they were... mature.. enough to venture on their own. Hmm, perhaps there was part of the story she hadn't heard yet. No matter! Jade looked at the bird with great fondness. Daresay, she might have liked birds more than puppies. Only because she may have been envious of their wings? "How are you today?" she asked the bird up there in her safe spot, only to be polite.
Kilayah's tail went a mile a minute. Ah! It could understand her1 How cool was that?! Pup yet again had to pause to scratch. Oh that took up so much time away from other things!So....this feathered thing was a chickadee. Cool! "Wow!" she replied, back up and trotting back to Jde and plopping down. "What's your name Chickadee?" she asked, muzzle still spread into a grin. Kil laughed, loving how the feathers ruffled. "Hey! Do it again!" she barked. She got into a play stance, and then happened to glance down between her paws. "Ooo.." she yipped. A butterfly was right there, but then it flew away, Kil's eyes glue to it, head moving in time.
Flitt's eyes flicked upon the dark one's head. She bobbed her own tiny, birdbrained skull. "I's good, tahh, very good." Again, her head bobbed. Then the younger spoke, and she turned to face her, beady eyes locked upon her face. "It's Flitt, mr. wolf." Mr. wolf, yes, as she wasn't very good at distinguishing their genders. Their greatly varying colours didn't help either, unlike many bird species, where colour of feathers separated male from female!
Jade Wolfbane grinned at the bird, attention shot back to Kil for a moment while she barked up at the bird. Holding back a snicker, Jade sat and went back to watching the bird with more interest than the distracted whelp. Though the laugh could not be contained when the bird called Kil a mr. "I'm sorry for the confusion, Flitt." she quickly said before pup could speak first. "We are both females." Almost as if she was understanding about the gender confusion. After all, they were different species. Jade knew though, that this bird was female. At least she hope she knew. Flitt was not bright and colorful like small male birds were! Most, anyway.
